Culturally reflexive practice: implications for family dispute resolution

This session will draw on Susan's early findings in her research with FDRPs and professionals working with culturally diverse families; research aimed at developing a culturally responsive model of FDR.
About Dr Susan Armstrong
Dr Susan Armstrong teaches at the School of Law, University of Western Sydney. She researches, presents and publishes in the area of family Law, family dispute resolution, assessment in higher education and the first year university experience.
Her doctorate examined the role of women's community based legal services in family law reform. Susan has worked in a range of legal and educational contexts in different capacities including at the Family Court of Australia and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
She is currently engaged in a three year research project for two Family Relationship Centres in Parramatta and Bankstown to develop a model of culturally responsive family dispute resolution. In 2008 the Australian Learning and Teaching Council awarded Susan a Carrick Citation for sustained educational leadership in building capacity and enhancing the university experience of law students from diverse backgrounds.
