Ian described a personal journey spanning nearly 20 years of polar exploration as a scientist and team leader. Small teams working in remote areas under harsh conditions inevitably have to manage conflict. Ian outlined some of the techniques that he has learned along the way, and introduced some simple techniques for mediating yourself and maintaining your own health and well-being while helping others. The talk was interactive and included some experiential exercises for the adventurous.

Christmas dinner
11 November 2010 at the “New Sydney” in Hobart.
A purely social event, which also provided an opportunity for attendees to catch up, network, and share some more convivial moments in a relaxed setting.

Simulated mediation
Facilitated by Gail Cork

Gail arranged for two actors to roleplay a property dispute. Their commitment to the scenario made for a challenging and thoroughly entertaining simulation. This was an interactive event with breaks between each stage of the mediation enabling questions and discussion amongst attendees throughout, providing valuable insight for all.

A number of informal role play sessions were also held mid-year for those interested in honing their skills – particularly in the lead up to LEADR accreditation assessments in Hobart.
