Mediation and the Owners Corporation Act 2006
With Richard Godfrey and Dorothy Leclaire
In this VADR organised presentation, Property Investor, Richard Godfrey and Dorothy Leclaire, Manager of Body Corporate Management, MICM, share their knowledge and experiences of the new Owners Corporation Act.
The presentation will cover:
- The shift in jurisdiction from Magistrates Court to VCAT
- The role of mediation in the three step dispute resolution process
- Transitional provisions.
- Responsibilities of Owners Corporation Committees
- Responsibilities of developers.
Over 1 million people in Victoria now live in bodies corporate (owners’ corporations) more than 5 times the number 20 years ago.
Relevant legislation changed recently when the new Owners Corporation Act came into force in late 2007, setting up new dispute resolution mechanisms. Disputes are commonplace and there is potentially a lot of work for mediators as under similar legislation in Queensland.
About the presenters
Richard Godfrey is a Property Investor with five years experience mediating body corporate and small claims disputes.
Dorothy Leclaire is Manager of Body Corporate Management, MICM (an arm of the Central Equity Group).
