International Mediation Institute (IMI) is an international public policy initiative created to assist leading mediation institutions enhance user confidence in the mediation process by:

  • establishing high level international mediator competency standards
  • introducing a certification system for highly-experienced mediators
  • promoting mediation, and how to find mediators, to users worldwide
  • offering an inter-cultural mediator certification for experienced mediators
  • providing impartial guidance and information to users
  • making available downloadable material about mediation
  • providing support for the creation and advancement of mediation bodies
  • developing experience generation schemes
  • promoting scholarship programs
  • introducing an international forum for young mediators
  • promoting a convening and referral function
  • encouraging the development of mediation in new fields (eg deal making).

Qualifying Mediators for IMI Certification

IMI’s Independent Standards Commission (ISC) has published Criteria for assessment programs qualifying mediators for IMI Certification. Leading trainers, providers and professional organisations worldwide have been invited to become qualifying institutions.  Many have indicated their interest in giving additional benefit to their mediators by qualifying them to become IMI Certified.

Irena Vanenkova

Irena Vanenkova is Executive Director of the International Mediation Institute (IMI), a non-profit, public benefit initiative that encourages use of mediation through open access information and internationally-applicable competency criteria standards.

Irena is CEDR accredited (1998) and holds the advanced mediation certificate of MATA (trained by David Richbell and Joanna Kolawski). Irena is Russian and based in Moscow.She holds the English Tutor Diploma of The Linguistic University in Moscow (1983), a Bachelor of Economics at the Moscow Institute of Business Studies  (1997), and the Diploma in PR Management at the Moscow State University (2001).
