Resolving conflict in workplace teams: beyond mediation

Audio recording of this session (35 mins) >>

About the session

Have you ever facilitated workplace mediations where you know your input is limited by team dynamics outside of your brief? Have you wondered how your work as a mediator can be integrated in a way that adds value beyond restoring the relationship of presenting parties?  If so this session may be of interest.

Addressing team conflict is complex as there are often numerous interrelated organisational and interpersonal factors creating dysfunction. Sometimes the conflict is exacerbated by parallel processes such as compensation claims, formal complaints and performance management – all of which are being addressed independently and confidentially.

This presentation provides a framework for restoring team functioning and psychological health that has been used successfully across private and public sector organisations. Through a variety of case studies the session showcases strategies that have produced sustainable recovery for teams in trouble.

Podcast: Listen to Kathryn talk about her session (7 mins) >>

In contrast to her work as a psychologist Kathryn’s alter-ego is Mrs Tuff Stuff - a persona she takes on when working in the family 4 wheel drive spare parts business.

A mother of two teenage boys she escapes the testosterone through swimming and visiting their farm.  Located less than one hours drive from the city the 60 acre property is a quiet retreat with a few cows and only the occasional (strategic) visit by a bull.
