  • The Deputy Premier, the Hon Rob Hulls, MP was educated in Melbourne and undertook his law studies at RMIT. 
  • From 1984 to 1986 Mr Hulls was a solicitor at the then Legal Aid Commission working in the Glenroy and Frankston offices.
  • Moving to Far North Queensland in 1986 he worked as a solicitor in Mt Isa and was retained by the Aboriginal Legal Service.
  • From 1990 to 1993, Mr Hulls was the Federal Member for Kennedy – an electorate covering 770,000 kilometres and described as the most diverse electorate in Australia.
  • Returning to Melbourne in 1993, Mr Hulls was the Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition until 1996 when he was elected MLA for Niddrie. 
  • Mr Hulls was Attorney-General, the Minister for Manufacturing Industry and the Minister for Racing in the first term of the Bracks government.
  • After the 2002 State election, he retained his position as Attorney-General and acquired the portfolios of Industrial Relations and WorkCover/Transport Accident Commission (TAC), relinquishing the portfolios of Manufacturing and Racing.
  • In the reshuffle of Cabinet announced by the Premier on 24 January 2005, Mr Hulls retained the portfolios of Attorney-General and Industrial Relations and acquired the portfolio of Planning, with WorkCover and TAC being consigned to another minister.
  • After the 2006 State election, he retained his position as Attorney-General and Minister for Industrial Relations and acquired the portfolio of Racing, relinquishing the portfolio of Planning.
  • In the wake of the resignation of the Premier Steve Bracks MP and the Deputy Premier John Thwaites MP, Mr Hulls was promoted to the position of Deputy Premier for the State of Victoria, retaining the portfolios of Attorney-General, Racing and Industrial Relations.
  • In December 2008, Mr Hulls relinquished the Industrial Relations portfolio.

Rob Hull was born 23 January 1957, Melbourne and has one daughter and three sons.

  • Admitted as Barrister and Solicitor, Supreme Court of Victoria 1 March 1983
