About the session

This workshop seeks to engage mediators into an inquiry about the artistry of their professional practice.  We will explore how artful inquiry can provide different forms of information and awareness and offer alternative modes for understanding, expression, and representation of knowledge.

sam hardyThis workshop offers a creative space for participants to individually and collectively inquire ‘artfully’ about their practice and what it means to be an ‘artful’ mediation practitioner.

The combination of reflective practice and the application of creative/artistic processes such as imagery, metaphors, movement/performance, stories, and writing have the capacity to encourage our imagination and intuitive responses. It is hoped the creative experience will encourage participants to gain a new perspective and appreciation about the art of mediation.

Cathryn and Sam are leading a day workshop on 13 November in Melbourne:

Sam is lucky enough to have a job in which she can continue her passion for learning.  She has an LLB, LLM, BA (French), Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching and a PhD.  Her PhD explored the typical conflict narratives in Western culture (in other words, how we tend to talk about conflict) and the impact of telling these stories on conflict resolution and party well-being.

Sam is also a keen photographer and scuba diver and recently combined the two by completing an underwater photography course.

Cathryn holds a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, a Diploma of Training and Assessment Systems, and a Diploma of Management from the Chartered Management Institute in the UK.
