Improving behaviours that promote more effective conflict resolution

Paper >>

About the session

Participants will extend their skills through engaging in action learning activities using the Conflict Dynamics Profile CDP as a professional tool for mediating conflict and as an aide to conflict coaching.

The CDP provides a powerful way to improve self-awareness of what triggers conflict in individuals as well as how they respond to conflict. However, in this workshop the application of the content of the CDP reports to mediation practices will be explored. The focus being usefulness (or not) of the information derived by the CDP to the Mediator in the preparation for and deliver their mediation interventions.

The premise for the CDP is the proposition that “while conflict itself is inevitable, ineffective and harmful responses to conflict can be avoided, and effective and beneficial responses to conflict can be learned and applied.

This proposition will be discussed, and the outcomes of the discussion will then be considered from the perspective of, and relevance to, Conflict Coaching.

The CDP, developed by Eckerd College in the USA  in 1999 and released in 2001 is an assessment instrument dealing with conflict behaviours, particularly in the workplace.

More information about the CDP can be found at:  http://www.conflictdynamics.org/cdp/
