Reflections on ADR, judging and non-adversarial justice: parallels and future developments |

Dr Michael King Dr Michael King is Magistrate for the East Kimberley, Western Australia, where he has worked since July 2010, prior to that he worked in the Drug Court of Western Australia (2005-2007). In his academic role he has been a senior research fellow (for 12 months) and a senior lecturer (for two years) at Monash University. He maintains his connection with the Law Faculty as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer. He has published extensively in Australian and overseas journals and via his blog on therapeutic jurisprudence, he reaches legal and ADR practitioners worldwide. Before serving as the Perth Drug Court magistrate, Dr King worked as Geraldton magistrate between 2001 and 2005 where he was involved in developing three therapeutic jurisprudence court programs. He is recognised internationally as an expert in therapeutic jurisprudence; his articles on legal practice, judging, problem-solving courts, therapeutic jurisprudence, offender rehabilitation, restorative justice, mediation, criminology and natural law have been published in peer reviewed journals in Australia, US and Europe. He is the main author of Non-Adversarial Justice published in 2009 which outlines the key aspects of this growing trend. In 2009, Dr King also authored a bench book on solution-focused judging for the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration which is used by Australian and international judicial officers. Currently he maintains the Australasian Therapeutic Jurisprudence Clearinghouse as well as his blog on therapeutic jurisprudence published on the Cutting-Edge Law website.
