rossLEUT Ross McSwan, RANR is a barrister, nationally accredited mediator and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Ross is the 2011 recipient of the Prince of Wales Award - Australian Defence Force. The Award enabled him to undertake a two week course on ‘Current Issues in International Dispute Resolution – The European Community’ in London and Geneva from 24 May 2011. The course was conducted through the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, California (currently ranked the leading dispute resolution school in the US).

Ross shares his insights on the use of mediation in international organisations including  the World Trade Organisation, the United Nations, prominent British legal firms, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution. International Offices of Immigration and ICC, International Court of Arbitration and World Intellectual Property Organization.

This presentation will provide a synthesis on current thinking on current issues affecting international dispute resolution.

Ross McSwan

Ross is a barrister, adjudicator and mediator who has chambers at Inns of Court - Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore,
Queensland. Ross was first called to the bar in 2007. He was admitted as solicitor in 1994 after completing two years as an Articled Clerk.

Since 1995 Ross has worked extensively in the field of mediation and arbitration throughout the Northern Territory and Queensland. He has over 2000 hours mediation experience and has finalised over 700 arbitration decisions as a Senior Case Officer for the Commonwealth.

Ross has been the coordinator of mediation programs for over 5 years and has employed and mentored lawyers, social scientists and indigenous people as mediators. Ross is a Navy Reserve Legal Office and one of the most experienced dispute resolution specialists in the Australian Defence Force. He has extensive experience in investigating and resolving matters in the Local Government arena and for State Government departments including Forestry, Education, and Disability Services.

Ross is accredited as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and a conference chairperson in Legal Aid family law conferences. He also lectures at Bond University and James Cook University and regularly appears in the Federal Magistrates court in family law matters.
