LEADR is the established leader in ADR training in the Australasian region. LEADR's training is based around a series of established courses and development of customised training to meet particular organisational need.

In addition to mediation training LEADR provides training in Negotiation, Facilitation and Conciliation. LEADR is fortunate to have truly excellent trainers who bring vast knowledge and practical experience to bear in delivering quality to adult education in this dynamic and challenging area.

LEADR is an accredited training provider to the Federal Australian Public Service Commission (formerly the Public Service Merit Protection Committee (PSMPC)).

The LEADR Training Team

Tania Sourdin

Professor in Law and Dispute Resolution, La Trobe, Director Centre for the study of the Legal Profession, Director Conflict Resolution Centre.

Professor Sourdin is an experienced mediator, conciliator and adjudicator.

Tania Sourdin has conducted organisational change workshops and has facilitated change processes involving over 400 staff. She had developed and managed a number of professional education programs in the ADR area and has trained a range of professionals (including judges, doctors, barristers and business people) in mediation, communication, advocacy and dispute resolution skills in Australia. Her skills in managing organisational change and facilitating workshops are consistently rated as excellent.

She mediated hundreds of disputes in a range of different contexts and is a member of the LEADR Advanced Panel of Mediators.

Professor Sourdin has been the author of a number of publications relating to ADR and id the author of the book "Alternative Dispute Resolution" (now in its seconds edition). She has a PhD in commercial dispute resolution and has presented numerous papers at conferences in the area of ADR. She has conducted evaluation research into dispute resolution processes in eight Courts and Tribunals and is currently commissioned as an independent reviewer to evaluate processes in other organisations.

Nina Harding

Nina Harding has worked as a full-time dispute resolution specialist for over 16 years. She is a Harvard Law School trained mediator and has a Master of Laws. Nina has mediated numerous business and community disputes. She has facilitated hundreds of workshops including issues such as aboriginal forestry rights. environmental policy development, waste oil recycling, small business, the proposed White City development, the Belrose Road Corridor, the Wombarra Drainage Tunnel, Y2K and hospital closures, to name a few. Nina has facilitated meetings of more than 600. Nina is on various mediation panels including the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.

Nina was formerly Project Manager for the Centre for Dispute Resolution in London.

Nina has designed and conducted hundreds of training programs in dispute resolution, mediation and negotiation. Nina has taught mediation and negotiation around Australia, in the Philippines and in Hong Kong. She has conducted  training programs for several Australian universities and law societies and for the University of Hong Kong. Nina is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at La Trobe University. Nina has also conducted training for CommSec, Westpac, NSW Premier's Department, Aboriginal Land Councils, KPMG, United International Pictures, the Energy and Water Ombudsman in NSW and Victoria and the Financial Industry Complaints Service.

Nina has written several papers on ADR, including an annotated bibliography on international economical disputes between Australia and Japan for the Foundation for International Dispute Resolution (FIDR) in Virginia, U.S.A. Titles 'Questions of contract and Questions of Honour'. Nina is a regular speaker at conferences in Australia and overseas.

Bradley Chenoweth

Bradley has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Australian National University. In addition to being a qualified mediator, Bradley is also an accredited Workplace Trainer (Certificate IV) and also trains people as trainers under this program.

Bradley has extensive experience in cross cultural environments and has been working in the mediation and training industries for more than 8 years. He combines an extensive corporate training background specialising in communication skills, with his extensive personal practice as a mediator

In the years that he has been associated with LEADR Bradley has regularly been reviewed by participants as an excellent coach and trainer. He has acted as facilitator in a wide variety of contexts from in-house human resources issues though to corporate meetings and internal training sessions.

Anne Sutherland-Kelly

has a Batchelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne and numerous ADR training qualifications. Anne is a practising Mediator and Arbitrator and has conducted over 100 mediations. Anne's experience ranges from commercial and complex multi-party disputes through to family law disputes over property and custody.  Anne has been appointed to numerous panels, including being a mediator and arbitrator for the Workers Compensation Commission of New South Wales and being a recognised external mediator for the Australian Defence Organisation.

Anne is also an experienced teacher and trainer. She has lectured in the Law School of the University of Sydney and is a LEADR lead trainer. Anne also teaches negotiation skills for corporate clients. Anne is a former director of LEADR.

John Sautelle

is a Principal of PerformGroup and a LEADR Advanced Mediator. He is a LEADR trainer and a Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). Before undertaking a significant sea-change, John was a lawyer in private practice for more than 20 years. He now works closely with client organisations in the fields of learning & development and conflict resolution. John is passionate about helping people achieve their true potential. He is an engaging and thought provoking presenter.

Ms Shirli Kirschner

Shirli is the principal of Resolve Advisors, and a LEADR Advanced Mediator.

Shirli became involved in conflict management in her capacity as a legal adviser and had been a full time practitioner since founding Resolve in 1996. She has an extensive practice as a mediator, facilitator, system designer and trainer. She has led training programs in every Australian State as well as Japan, Israel and the USA.

Shirli delivers training for LEADR in the field of negotiation and the LEADR endorsed two day negotiation skills course is beneficial to all involved in representing interests in a principled and effective way.

Ms Julie Wolfson

Julia is the principal of Metaplan, and a LEADR Advanced Mediator.

Julia has developed an excellent facilitation tool known as ëtalking paperí which allows the rapid distillation of the core issues and interests to be determined from parties in conflict. This course is LEADR endorsed and has been accepted. Julia has delivered this training in most States of Australia and has frequently delivered this training in the USA.

Mediation Workshops

LEADR has a reputation for excellence in mediation training. As one of the first providers of mediation training in Australia, LEADR combines its extensive experience with latest developments in Alternative Dispute Resolution occurring both nationally and internationally. LEADR training is recognised for the high quality of its program design, the interactive and experimental emphasis of the learning activities and the exemplary skills of its facilitators.

What the program offers

Who Should Attend ?

Previous attendees include lawyers, managers, human resource personnel, industrial relations experts, healthcare practitioners, educators, counsellors, coaches, conciliators and community engagement professionals.

A 27 participant maximum is intended for each workshop. Places are often in demand. Early registration is recommended.

Program

Participants will receive a detailed program and notes on the first day of the workshop. All public subscription workshops commence at 9am and conclude at 5pm from Wed through Fri, unless advised otherwise. On Saturday the workshop commences at 8.30am and concludes at 4.15pm.  In house workshops can be delivered on days as required.

 

Inclusions

All participants will receive a workshop manual, morning and afternoon teas and lunches plus a Certificate of Attendance. Membership of LEADR until the end of the current membership year is also included in the fee.

 

Trainers 

A minimum of two trainers per day will lead each workshop.

Experienced LEADR coaches will provide one-on-one coaching on the final day of the workshop.

 

Pre-reading 

Participants are advised to read Fisher, R; Ury, W and Patton, B: Getting to yes: negotiating agreement without giving in, copies of which can be purchased at a discount from LEADR.  This work is recommended as it is the seminal text on principled negotiation, and will assist the participants in understanding this concept which is frequently used in mediation.

Complaints Management

With the continuing emphasis on service, all providers need an effective system for not only responding to customer/client needs but in effectively handling their complaints to the benefit of all parties. This workshop has been designed for Service Providers, and there line managers and staff that face the battle of extracting the best possible information from the complainant and outcome for the organisation.  The course, runs for one day and will cover:

The ability to run meetings, both large and small, is now recognised as a skill essential to business professionals.  Additionally, it is now not uncommon that business planning meetings will be facilitated by a professional external to the management of the company.  This is done to ensure:

The LEADR 2.5 day facilitation skills workshop will allow participants to understand the dynamics of meetings, while also provide tools hat can be used to capture and progress discussions.  

 

ADR Awareness Course

The awareness course runs for 1/2 a day and is designed to deliver to the attendees a good understanding of the principal ADR disciplines used in our region. The course delivers to participants an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of mediation, arbitration, conciliation, expert determination, early neutral evaluation, negotiation and adjudication.

Details of the venue for each workshop will be provided upon registration.

Discounts for multiple registration

If three or more people from the one organisation register for the same workshop, a discount is available. Please contact LEADR for further details.

Postponement or Cancellation fees

If cancellation in writing is received by LEADR 21 days prior to the commencement of the workshop, a refund (less $100 administration fee) will be given. No refunds can be given if less than 14 days notice of cancellation is received.

Transfers

Transferring from one Workshop to another will incur a $100 administration fee. Transfers can only be made for a maximum of 2 years from the original date of registration.

LEADR International Conference

LEADR's 8th International Conference titled "Waves of Change" was held in Sydney in the beachside suburb of Manly from 31 August through 2 September 2005.  The Conference was attended by speakers and participants from across Australia, New Zealand and many more distant lands. The next LEADR Conference will be held in New Zealand in September of 2007.

National Mediation Conference

LEADR is an active participant in and supporter of  the National Mediation Conferences. The conference has been held every two years since inception and is widely acknowledged as the leading gathering of dispute resolution practitioners in Australia during the year in which it is held. 

Hobart was the host for the 2006 National Mediation Conference attracting close to 300 ADR professionals world wide, definitely the highlight of the Australasian Mediation Calendar. 

In the recent years they have been  held in Canberra in 2002 and Darwin in 2006. LEADR has been an active participant in both the 2004 and 2006 conferences and we look forward to contributing to the 2008 conference.
