How often when matters fail to settle is the style of the protagonists the real cause, or at least a major contributing factor?

Recent experience has led me to conclude that we ignore the participants’ conflict style at our peril. Getting them talking early in the process is critical if we are to get a handle on how they “fight” as well as what it is they are fighting about…

Post-nominals

In response to significant interest by members, LEADR is introducing post-nominals.

The post-nominals will indicate your membership of LEADR, and your accreditation level. The Board anticipates that members will find that post–nominals provide a commercial benefit as they enhance the credibility of the services you offer.

Assoc.M.LEADR  -  Member LEADR (for Associate and Other members)
Acc.M.LEADR  -  Accredited Member LEADR
Adv.M.LEADR  -  Advanced Member LEADR

Welcome to new Director

The Board is very pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine Davidson to the Board (filling the position made vacant by the appointment of the CEO). Catherine is legally trained, accredited with LEADR (2004) and former a NSW Chapter Executive member.

Catherine says of her new role on the Board: "I am really looking forward to being part of the Board at a time of such growth in the ADR world. I am keen to help strengthen and develop LEADR’s initiatives, particularly the e–newsletter for members. 2007 promises to be an exciting and challenging year.”

Customised training

LEADR’s reputation for quality in mediation training often leads to contracts to provide training programs tailored to the particular needs of an organisation’s staff.

Recent examples include Fundamentals of Mediation for Senior Academic Staff at UNSW; Business Relationahip Management for Analysts with NSW Treasury; Mediation Skills for the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and for WA Magistrates Court and Tribunals Directorate; Negotiation, Communication and Dispute Resolution Skills for St Vincent’s Hospital.

LEADR is keen to consult with organisations about their particular training needs and to tailor a program that aligns closely with these needs.

Understanding Behavior and Perception of Negotiators
from Their Strategies

Lai et al

"This study clustered the data collected
from an operational e-negotiation system based on the strategies used by negotiators: either their own strategies or their thoughts about those of their partners. This resulted in a division
into cooperative and non-cooperative clusters. ... The proportion of negotiations reaching
agreement is larger for the cooperative cluster than for the non-cooperative cluster."
